Handles for hand countersinks, awls, screwdrivers and other tools can be cast from epoxy resin. This method is especially convenient when making tool sets, when the handles must be the same. Consider how you can immediately make ready-made handles from epoxy resin, which do not need to be processed later on a lathe.
- molding silicone;
- epoxy resin;
- lubricant for forms.
Handle casting process
Two-component molding silicone is mixed in a separate container.
A clean glass is used as a formwork for pouring it. Above it, in the center, hang a tool with a suitable copying handle. It should not reach the bottom of the glass, and not protrude above its edges.
The contact surfaces should be lubricated with mold release agent and then filled with silicone. The glass is tapped to expel air bubbles. After the silicone hardens, the finished mold is cut from one side to the molded handle in order to extract it.
The form is held together with several turns of tape. Then a tool without a handle is suspended above it. It remains to pour epoxy resin tinted in the desired color into the mold, and wait until it dries.
After the composition has hardened, the mold is opened and the tool is removed.
In conclusion, it remains only to modify the resulting handle with a file to remove casting flaws. The form can be reused.
