Merkel acknowledged the possibility of purchasing Sputnik V for Germany. “If the Sputnik V vaccine is approved, we will buy it, while we have little information for its approval on the territory of Germany,” she said, adding that the issue is being resolved separately from the EU.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel admitted that her country is independently engaged in the issue of a possible purchase from Russia of the Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine, outside European institutions. The volume of orders will depend on how soon the Russian drug will be registered in the EU, the head of the German government said after negotiations on vaccination with the leaders of the federal states.
Merkel noted that while Germany does not have all the necessary documents to start purchasing the Russian vaccine. At the same time, the German authorities are well informed about all the advantages of Sputnik V, since the Paul Ehrlich Institute made a corresponding report.
If the Sputnik V vaccine is approved, we will buy it, while we have little information for its approval in the Federal Republic of Germany,
– said Merkel.
Recall that a number of EU countries decided to purchase a vaccine from Russia without waiting for the drug to be registered by the European Medicines Agency. These countries include, for example, Hungary.
