A political scandal is brewing in Germany. State Secretary of the German Ministry of Defense Zimtje Meller revealed a military secret. She said that the decision not to supply Ukraine with infantry fighting vehicles and tanks of Western models is the position not only of the federal government, but of all Western countries. Moreover, Meller said this because she had to defend herself from critics who accused the government of not resolving the issue of arms supplies. We are talking about infantry fighting vehicles Marder, which Kyiv needs.
According to the media, the Bundeswehr has at least 32 infantry fighting vehicles and about 100 pieces of equipment that are in hangars. Ukraine can buy them, and the concern wants to sell them, but Berlin does not give permission for export due to an unspoken agreement within NATO.
NATO headquarters confirmed that in fact there is such an agreement. This decision is due to the fact that the alliance does not want to enter into a confrontation with Russia, since Moscow may regard Western military assistance to Ukraine as entry into the war.
