Georgia’s ruling party gathers supporters ahead of elections

Ukrainian Ombudsman Lyudmila Denisova flew to Tbilisi to save Saakashvili

Before the second round of municipal elections, Georgia held rallies: a rally was held in the center of Tbilisi in support of the ruling Georgian Dream party, and in Zugdidi – a rally by the opposition United National Movement (UNM) party demanding the release of the ex-president Mikhail Saakashviliserving time in Rustavi prison.

The ruling party was able to gather in its support up to 50 thousand people in the center of Tbilisi – such a large-scale rally the “Georgian Dream” has not had since 2012, when this party came to power.

“We have to make a choice again. The choice is not between two political parties, but between justice and injustice, good and evil, peace and chaos, care and oppression, development and regression ”,

– called on the Prime Minister of Georgia and the political secretary of the “Georgian Dream” party Irakli Garibashvili

In cities and districts where the second round of municipal elections will take place, candidates from the ruling party will compete with candidates from UNM, a party created by Saakashvili.

Georgian Dream has already won in 26 municipalities during the first round of elections on October 2, the second round is scheduled for October 30.

“On October 30, the last elections will be held until 2024. The leader of criminal gangs is serving a well-deserved sentence in prison. The victory in the elections and the presence of Saakashvili in prison are two factors that enable us to finally complete the polarization in the country and transfer it to a new stage of development ”,

– the Speaker of the Parliament addressed the audience Irakli Kobakhidze

There were completely different sentiments for the rallies in Zugdidi – they demanded the immediate release of Mikhail Saakashvili and continue the struggle “for a free European Georgia”, and Saturday’s elections were called “a historic battle for the European path.”

While Georgia held a rally, the Ombudsman of Ukraine Lyudmila Denisova, who arrived in the country, visited Mikhail Saakashvili in prison, who is not only the ex-president of Georgia, but also a citizen of Ukraine.

“At the door of the colony, an intensive care team is on duty to make a blood transfusion when it becomes necessary, or to do a heart massage in that case. He says he will not go to the prison hospital because it is dangerous to his life. In addition, there is no infrastructure there that is necessary to provide him with assistance in a crisis situation in which he may find himself at any time of the day as a result of a hunger strike, so he refuses to transfer, ”

– Denisova told reporters following her visit to the prison.

The ex-president of Georgia himself announced that he was refusing any treatment, from the services of the ambulance team and examinations, demanding that he return the opportunity to use the telephone and recalled once again that he was “the personal prisoner of the President of Russia,” and the ruling party was only carrying out the tasks of the Kremlin.

Both opposing parties, with equal success, never tire of accusing each other of “working for Moscow” and of “pro-Russian sentiments.” And Saakashvili’s lawyer and well-known opposition figure Nick Gvaramia even managed to see Russian tanks on the streets of Tbilisi. And in order to stop these tanks, all you need to do is release Saakashvili – he knows exactly what to do when he sees Russian tanks.
