Georgian law enforcement agencies have commented on the use of special means during the arrest of the chairman of the opposition United National Movement party, Nika Melia, RIA Novosti reported.
Tear gas was used in the office of the opposition party EDN. The Georgian Interior Ministry said that law enforcement officers warned that the execution of the court’s decision should not be impeded. The party gathered in the office did not obey the police request and resisted. After that, the security forces used special equipment.
Earlier it was reported that during the special operation to arrest Melia, more than ten people were detained.
We will remind, earlier the Tbilisi City Court arrested the chairman of the party of the former President Mikheil Saakashvili “United National Movement” Nika Melia. The prosecutor’s office filed a petition for the arrest of the oppositionist because he refused to pay the previously selected bail of 40 thousand lari. Prior to this, Nika Melia said that the head of the Central Election Commission of the republic Tamar Zhvania is responsible for falsifying the results of the last parliamentary elections.
