Georgian authorities urge politicians to stop rallies and start work

And Yulia Tymoshenko joins the fight for the release of Saakashvili

Rallies do not stop in Georgia – the opposition demands immediately the release of the ex-president of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili, and transferring him to a civilian clinic from the prison hospital where Miho was taken last week. Another demand, which, however, has become traditional over the past few years, is the demand to hold early parliamentary elections, the opposition does not lose hope of someday gaining power.

Georgian political scientist Ramaz Sakvarelidze believes that at present the opposition has decided to rely not on the number of protesters – it is not possible to gather many people for protests, but on the number of the actions themselves in order to attract maximum attention. Therefore, two or three meetings a day are held in different places in Tbilisi: at the parliament building, at the Ministry of Justice and even at the Ministry of Health.

“Large stocks require a large number of people, and I think that it is difficult for them to recruit such a number now. Small stocks are easier to attract attention. But if the authorities do not react in any way, it will be difficult for the opposition to maintain the tone of these actions. Very rarely, long-term actions yielded results – the protest is effective at first. And if at first there is no result, then later, over time, everything comes to naught “,

– said Sakvarelidze in an interview Sputnik Georgia

However, the protests, in his opinion, will come to naught only on one condition: if the authorities do not make mistakes, in particular, they do not start using forceful methods of dispersal, which always contributes to an increase in the ranks of protesters and gives a new incentive for activity, the political scientist warned.

The government announced that it was time to change the “agenda”, because society was tired of constant political confrontation, it was time to get involved in the economy, health care, education and the social sphere – lately, all this did not have enough strength, which was spent on political struggle. Chairman of the ruling Georgian Dream party Irakli Kobakhidze called on all political forces in the country to stop the protests and get down to work, which begins on Monday – the parliament is returning to active work.

“Well, those who do not want to solve the problems of Georgia, let them continue to wander the streets and carry out their actions, they will not particularly harm or interfere with this,”

– noted Kobakhidze.

Time will tell whether the Georgian parliament will manage to work quietly. But Ukrainian politician enters the fight for Saakashvili’s release Yulia Timoshenko, who demanded to immediately return the “Ukrainian citizen Saakashvili” to Ukraine. The head of the Ukrainian party “Batkivshchyna” made such a demand after the Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili asked Ukrainian citizens to refrain from interfering in the internal affairs of Georgia. As it turned out, Ukrainian citizens find it difficult to abstain, almost impossible.
