The Georgian authorities hope to raise the issue of opening the land border with the Russian Federation in the near future, reports TASS, referring to the special representative of the Prime Minister of Georgia for the settlement of relations with the Russian Federation Zurab Abashidze.
He stressed that the opening of the border between the countries depends on the epidemic situation.
“I hope that the situation with coronavirus will soon stabilize in our countries, and we will be able to raise the issue of opening the border,” the Georgian diplomat said.
Abashidze also said that he plans to hold an online meeting with a member of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation Grigory Karasin in the first quarter.
Regular flights between the countries were interrupted in the summer of 2019 at the initiative of the Russian side, and the only existing border checkpoint was closed last spring due to the coronavirus pandemic.
As a reminder, from January 27 RF resumes regular flights with Vietnam, India, Qatar and Finland.
It also became known that the Russian government allowed the citizens of the EAEU to enter the country from Armenia and Belarus in the presence of a negative test result for coronavirus.
