Today, the UNM party has become so emboldened that, without gaining power, it is able to unleash a civil war
“It is safe to say that there are still two poles in Georgian politics: on one side of the equator lies the Georgian Dream, on the other – the opposing National Movement. So it was in the past, and before last, and on the elections before last. The assumption that the party of Giorgi Gakharia will be able to break out into the role of the third force and introduce an imbalance in the established comfort of these two parties was not justified, ”
– reports the newspaper “Georgia and World”.
The publication reminds of how everything began in Georgian politics immediately after gaining independence. Then the society split into “Zviadists” and “Shevardnadzists”. A little later, the United National Movement appeared Mikhail Saakashvili under the slogan “He who is not with us is against us”, thereby further splitting the society. Over time, UNM began to create satellite parties, and then the Georgian Dream appeared, which won a landslide victory in 2012. Since then, the main task of the “National Movement” has become the return of power by any means, and the party is slowly but surely moving towards its goal. And today she has literally one step left to take to seize the main levers of power, the newspaper warns.
“Those who hope that after their return to power the nationalists will spare someone and not show their former face, are mistaken. Akaki Minashvili, Nugzar Tsiklauri, Eka Kherkheulidze have already appeared on the stage, threatening that after their return they will ask everyone. In addition, having returned to power, the National Movement will immediately bring to the fore the liberal wing and will certainly give the so-called LGBT tribe an opportunity to finally “worthily” hold its unfortunate parade on Rustaveli ”,
– writes the author of the article Beso Barakadze…
In his opinion, the West is also in favor of the nationals returning to power, however, the Western partners have not yet particularly advertised their desire. This is what caused such a huge number of observers sent from the EU and the USA, who were tasked with finding violations and questioning at least 3-4% of the votes. But the difference turned out to be much more significant.
Beso Barakadze regrets that already almost 40% of voters do not remember about the violence of the Saakashvili regime, that prisons were closed, and people were shot in the streets, that entrepreneurs were imposed a tribute, and the authorities had unlimited power. But in order to understand what threatens the return of the nationals, you just need to listen to what they say, the author emphasizes.
So, the general director of the opposition TV channel Nick Gvaramia warns that he will become attorney general and begin “popular terror”, promising both “mass arrests” and clogged prisons.
“In 2012, even the most notorious nationalist would not have dared to say that in nine years he would have a chance to return to power. But now they are so bold that, without gaining power, they can unleash a civil war, and do not hope that any of them will be frightened by the prospect of mass bloodshed ”,
– warns Georgia and the World.
