The Federal Security Service has released an operative video footage of the detention of lawyer Yuri Zenkovich and political scientist Alexander Feduta, who are suspected of preparing a military coup in Belarus.
On Saturday, the president of the republic, Alexander Lukashenko, announced the arrest of a group of people who were preparing an attempt on the life of him and his children. Subsequently, the Public Relations Center of the FSB gave details: in Moscow, they took Zenkovich, who has dual citizenship of the United States and Belarus, and Feduta, a Belarusian. According to the Belarusian KGB, the leader of the opposition party Grigory Kostusev was among the organizers; he was detained in the republic. The committee also said that Zenkovich is associated with the US intelligence services.
The footage shows Zenkovich descending on the airport escalator after arriving in Moscow. On one of the streets of the capital, with a suitcase in his hands, he talks with Feduta. The latter has a medical mask on his chin, the lawyer did without it.
The operation to arrest Zenkovich took place in the afternoon. In the video, FSB officers put the lawyer in a company car, followed by Feduta’s arrest. It can be seen that they were taken from different places in Moscow.
Earlier in the program “Vesti Nedeli” on the channel “Russia 1” they showed footage of operational footage of the FSB, which captured the meeting of the two organizers of the coup with allegedly Belarusian generals. They talk in a tavern on the Garden Ring. Zenkovich and Feduta stated that the main goal of the conspirators is the assassination of Lukashenka. They also suggested that the military should loot and appropriate the president’s property. According to the plan, it was supposed to completely block the power system of Belarus, internal troops and riot police, to occupy several symbolic objects in the center of the city, including a radio station, television, in order to read the appeal. In addition, the idea of blocking Minsk was discussed so that the authorities could not pull troops there from the outside.
At the meeting in the restaurant, the organizers brought a list of high-ranking politicians, officials and security officials who, according to journalists, were going to be killed or sent to a concentration camp. Thanks to the hackers, the conspirators had at their disposal the databases of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the KGB, the Investigative Committee and other authorities. Judging by the plot, Zenkovich promised to provide them to the military. The suspects also planned to involve Ukrainian nationalists in the preparation of the coup.
The conspirators noted that they need at least five years to transform society and state. After the military uprising and assassinations, Belarus should become an incubator for “growing democracy” according to the experience of Poland, it was noted in the report. It was supposed to create a State Council, which would include the leaders of all registered parties. Personally, Zenkovich, according to him, was going to be responsible for legal reform.
The investigative bodies of Belarus are already investigating the case against Zenkovich and Feduta under Article 357 of the Criminal Code of Belarus (conspiracy or other actions committed with the aim of seizing state power).
