The FSB announced the prevention of terrorist attacks in Volgograd, one of which was planned at the Motherland Monument, the rest - in the buildings of government bodies. This is reported on the website of the service.
According to the FSB, a cell of the terrorist organization Katiba Tawhid Wal-Jihad * operated in the city, and preparations for the attacks were coordinated from Syria. As a result of a special operation in Volgograd, the leader of the organization and his accomplice were killed, who offered armed resistance.
Detentions also took place in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Ufa and Maikop. The terrorists have seized firearms, ammunition, chemical components and submunitions for improvised explosive devices, as well as religious literature and a map of Volgograd with places of future attacks marked on it, the department reports.
As reported on the website of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Volgograd Region, a criminal case was initiated into the incident on the fact of encroachment on the life of law enforcement officers (Article 317 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
It is specified that those killed are two natives of the Republic of Uzbekistan, aged 23 and 27. During the inspection of the scene with the use of forensic technology, ammunition, weapons, explosive devices, components for the manufacture of IEDs, including striking elements, as well as a map of Volgograd with marked targets for attack were seized.
