France takes over the chairmanship of the Council of the European Union

From January 1, 2022, France will assume the duties of the chairman of the Council of the European Union, RIA Novosti reports.

The country chairing over the next six months should carry out the tasks of organizing the work of the Council, setting the agenda and schedule.

According to the European diplomat in Brussels, Paris plans to organize about two thousand meetings at various levels, of which 400 will be held in France.

Earlier, Russian leader Vladimir Putin spoke by phone with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron, discussing with him issues of strengthening stability and security in Europe.
