France closes borders with non-EU countries

French Prime Minister Jean Casteks said that entry to France from countries outside the European Union, as well as exit from the country is prohibited due to the epidemiological situation, Interfax reports.

“Any entry into France and any exit from our territory, both from the country and to a country outside the European Union, will be prohibited except for very compelling reasons,” he said.

The announced ban will take effect from 00:00 Sunday.

“Any entry to France from an EU country will be subject to the presentation of a PCR test, with the exception of cross-border workers,” he added.

Earlier, US President Joseph Biden and French President Emmanuel Macron held a telephone conversation, during which they agreed to join forces to combat the coronavirus pandemic.

Biden decided to maintain restrictions on entry into the country from the Schengen countries, the UK, Ireland and Brazil.
