France and US call for stronger EU-NATO partnership

France and the United States are in favor of strengthening the strategic partnership between the EU and NATO, TASS reports.

This is stated in a joint communique adopted following negotiations between French President Emmanuel Macron and the head of the White House, Joe Biden.

At the same time, the European Union was invited to the summit of the North Atlantic Alliance, which will be held in Madrid in 2022.

The document also states that in the area of security, the allies should hold close consultations on arms control issues.

Washington also welcomed the EU’s strategy for the Indian and Pacific Oceans.

The United States believes it has overcome the crisis in bilateral relations with France that arose from the formation of AUKUS. A high-ranking representative of the American administration told reporters after the talks.

Recall that earlier the United States, Britain and Australia entered into a security partnership. After that, Canberra broke a major contract with Paris for the supply of submarines. France, in turn, expressed dissatisfaction and called the behavior of allies and partners unacceptable.
