In Chechnya, the former mayor of Argun, Ibragim Temirbayev, who had previously been unofficially imprisoned for criticizing the personality of Ramzan Kadyrov, died under mysterious circumstances. According to Kavkaz.Realii sources * from the close circle of the former official, he died as a result of an accident on the Shatoi-Grozny highway.

“The car fell into the abyss. It is not entirely clear why he ended up in that area,” the source said, noting that the former mayor was released in early 2021 after a year and a half of unofficial imprisonment in the colony-settlement N3 in Argun.

The opposition Chechen telegram channel 1ADAT, reporting on Temirbayev’s death, writes that “we are talking about murder, and the authorities are likely to announce death as a result of an accident.” The funeral of Temirbayev will be held before the end of the day.

Ibragim Temirbayev was one of the defendants in Novaya Gazeta’s publication about cleansing operations surrounded by the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov. At the end of July 2019, he was unexpectedly removed from the post of mayor of Argun, which he had held for 15 years, after which he suddenly disappeared.

According to journalists, Kadyrov had “hostile attitude” towards him since 2006 because of the support that Temirbayev provided to the former president of the republic, Alu Alkhanov. The reason for the detention of Temirbayev was his criticism of Kadyrov in telephone conversations with certain high-ranking officials in Moscow and Chechnya.

Ibragim Temirbayev started a loud story about “a slap in the face to Kadyrov’s portrait.” Then it was reported about a certain conflict between the first deputy minister of the local Ministry of Internal Affairs Apti Alaudinov and the head of Chechnya. The reason for him was a party that Alaudinov, the former head of the traffic police in the Chechen Republic Shamkhan Denilkhanov and the head of the local Ministry of Emergency Situations Ruslan Yakhyaev, had arranged three years earlier.

At this party, all three had a good drink, after which they began to call their friends and acquaintances via video link and invite them to join them. It was reported that then Apti even gave a light slap on the head of the portrait of Ramzan Kadyrov, and Temirbaev was among his subscribers that evening. “All three participants in the party were very frank and allegedly made sharp jokes about Kadyrov,” Baza notes. Following the results of that history, the head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the republic, the first deputy minister of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the head of the EKTs left their posts.

In October 2019, the media reported on the preparation of an assassination attempt on the head of Chechnya, in which Apty Alaudinov, Ibragim Temirbayev and the head of the Urus-Martan district of the republic, Valid Abdureshidov, were allegedly involved. The then press secretary of the head of the republic, Alvi Karimov, called the information about the assassination attempt rumors, and Alaudinov and Abdureshidov publicly declared their loyalty to Ramzan Kadyrov and denied information about their participation in the conspiracy.
