Foreign Ministers of the Russian Federation and Indonesia Sergei Lavrov and Retno Marsudi held a telephone conversation on March 31. The parties discussed the political situation in Myanmar, as well as the fight against the coronavirus pandemic, according to the website of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
It is clarified that the conversation took place on the initiative of the Indonesian side.
On February 1, the leader of Myanmar, Vin Myin, and members of the ruling party were detained. The military declared a state of emergency for one year and announced the creation of a new authority. There are protests in the country. Their participants demand the release of the leaders of the state. The security forces violently disperse the demonstrations. Last week, more than 100 demonstrators were killed in a day.
