At the 2021 World Youth Championship, the Russian national team has already held two meetings: they defeated the United States with a score of 5: 3 and lost to the Czech Republic team 0: 2. It is already clear who can take our team at least to the final of the tournament, and, if possible, bring gold medals from Edmonton.
Yaroslav Askarov (goalkeeper)
The fact that an 18-year-old guy will be the main goalkeeper of the Russian national team at the U-20 World Cup speaks volumes. Yaroslav Askarov from SKA is a great talent in Russian hockey. He is already the main player of the St. Petersburg team. What’s more, it has one of the best reliability ratios in the entire league.
One of the main qualities of Yaroslav is composure and choice of position. He never fusses, he correctly assesses the situation on the site. In addition to his immediate goal-defense responsibilities, he can launch an attack with an unexpected pass to the middle zone.
It is no coincidence that Askarov was entrusted with a place at the gate at the recent Karjala Cup among adults! And he did his job brilliantly, getting into the symbolic team of the tournament. He has every chance of becoming the best at MFM-2021.
Shakir Muhammadullin (defender)
The young defender from the Salavat Yulaev system has already excelled this year. Shakir Muhammadullin became one of four Russian hockey players selected in the first round of the NHL draft this season. What is this if not recognition? Yes, even in advance, but the guy is already considered one of the best Russian defenders who will soon leave for the NHL. Perhaps in a year or two, he will shine overseas in the form of the New Jersey Devils.
In the meantime, he needs to prove himself at the youth world championship, where high hopes are pinned on him as the head coach of the team Igor Larionov… Shakir has a clear craving for attacking actions: on occasion, he is ready to give an assist to a partner or aim at goal. Of course, at the adult level it is more difficult, but among young men he regularly scored points on the goal + pass system.
Last season, Mukhamadullin made his debut for the senior team of Salavat Yulaev, becoming the youngest player in the history of the club. At the time of his debut, he was only 17 years old and 236 days old. Yes, he didn’t play that much, but that was enough for progress.
Vasily Podkolzin (forward)
For the 19 year old striker Vasily Podkolzin this World Youth Championship is already the third in a row! A talented hockey player was taken under the banner of the national team for 20-year-old players at both 17 and 18 years old. This time he will be the most experienced in the tournament, and therefore Igor Larionov decided to make him the team captain.
Vasily made his debut in adult hockey three years ago, which is extremely important for a young hockey player. Yes, so far he has not managed to reveal himself in all its glory in SKA, although the head coach of St. Petersburg residents Valery Bragin is well aware of his capabilities, because it was under his coaching that Podkolzin was called up to the youth team two previous times.
But against the background of peers from the striker, you can and should expect an effective game. He is one of those players who make a difference in the Russian national team. Podkolzin’s form can be judged by the Karjala Cup, in which he became the top scorer of the tournament. “Great faith in this player, as a leader and as a master. His dedication in trainings turns on the guys, ”Igor Larionov said before the start of the MFM.
Rodion Amirov (forward)
Another talented Russian striker who was drafted in the first round by the NHL club. If all goes according to plan, the forward of Salavat Yulaev Rodion Amirov will leave for the Toronto Maple Leafs club. True, this is unlikely to happen very soon, but in a couple of years it will.
In the current KHL season, Salavat initially had big problems with the players who were sick with the coronavirus, and the coaching staff had to pull out reservists from the youth team. Amirov became one of those who were called to help the remaining experienced hockey players. And the guy did not hesitate, opening an account with his goals at the senior level. So Igor Larionov has someone to count on in terms of effective play.
Egor Chinakhov (forward)
Another talented hockey player is Amirov’s link partner: Egor Chinakhov from “Vanguard”. He was also picked in the first round of the draft by Columbus. For many, this was a big surprise, even in Canada they were interested in who it was on the day of the draft.
Last season, playing for the Omsk Hawks youth team, Chinakhov scored 69 scoring points (27 goals, 42 assists) in 56 matches. This is a brilliant result even for the youth league. Of course, he was noticed not only in the main team of Avangard, but also overseas.
And now Yegor is trying to work off advances from the very first game at the MFM. In the match with the USA, he became the author of one of the pucks. We look forward to continuing in the next games!
