The FSB Investigation Department has begun checking Artemy Lebedev's statements about the Circassians and the Motherland Calls monument, lawyer Vladimir Slashchev told RIA Novosti.
The lawyer said that his principal, the chairman of the council of elders of the Circassian cultural diaspora in Moscow and a member of the executive committee of the International Circassian Association, Yuri Agirbov, filed a statement to initiate a criminal case against Lebedev.
"We asked to initiate a criminal case under three articles 280 (extremism), 282 (humiliation based on ethnicity) and 354.1 (desecration of symbols of military glory). The application was sent by mail, it was received by the FSB Directorate for the city of Moscow and the Moscow region in early September." - said the lawyer.
According to him, in the near future they should be summoned to testify. The agency has no official confirmation of this information.
The applicant's claims are related to two videos of Lebedev on the YouTube channel, posted on July 15 and August 19 this year.
In the first video, the designer commented on the demolition of the "Feat of Russian Soldiers" monument in Sochi at the request of the Circassians. In another, he, according to the applicant, spoke negatively about the monument "Motherland Calls" - the designer called it "ugly" and "the most awful work of Soviet monumental cultural art, which, unfortunately, cannot be found anywhere."
