Finnish Foreign Ministry: the country does not intend to join NATO

Finnish Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto said that the state has no plans to join NATO. The words of the head of the foreign policy department are quoted by RIA Novosti.

Haavisto stressed in his speech after the meeting of the EU foreign ministers in France that the country’s security policy remains unchanged.

On the eve of January 13, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that Sweden and Finland meet the defense standards of the alliance and can quickly join NATO. Before that, US Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland noted that Washington was ready to discuss with both countries the possibility of their joining the alliance.

Earlier today, Stoltenberg announced that NATO had decided to admit Ukraine and Georgia, but the timing of the countries’ entry into the alliance has not yet been determined.
