The Candidates Tournament of the International Chess Federation (FIDE), suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic, will be resumed in Yekaterinburg on April 19.

The tournament originated in Yekaterinburg on March 17, 2020, 7 rounds were played. The outgoing tour will kick off on April 19, 2021. The contender for the title of world chess champion will become famous by April 28, when, if necessary, a tie-break will take place.
After 7 rounds, the Frenchman M. Vachier-Lagrave and the Russian Y. Nepomniachtchi are in the lead with 4.5 points each. Russian A. Grischuk, Dutch A. Giri, American F. Caruana, Chinese V. Hao (all – 3.5 each), Russian K. Alekseenko and Chinese D. Liren scored 2.5 each.
The winner of the tournament will receive a left to fight for the chess crown with the world champion Norwegian Magnus Carlsen. The match will take place in Dubai from November 24 to December 16.
