During a meeting on Wednesday, the Federation Council unanimously ratified an agreement to extend until February 5, 2026, the Treaty between the Russian Federation and the United States on Measures to Further Reduce and Limit Strategic Offensive Arms (START, also referred to as START-3), TASS reports.
148 members of the Federation Council voted for ratification.
We will remind, the document was submitted for consideration in the lower house of parliament by the head of the country Vladimir Putin. According to this agreement, the START Treaty is extended until February 5, 2026.
Earlier, the ratification of the agreement was supported by the State Duma of the Russian Federation. The deputies considered this issue at a meeting that took place on January 27.
The agreement on the extension of the contract was concluded between the countries on the eve of January 26.
