Political observer Valery Karbalevich came to sad conclusions after the words of the President of the Republic Alexander Lukashenko. He said that soon in Belarus any social activity not under the control of the authorities and even just dissent will be criminalized.
Karbalevich recalled that lately there have been speculations in the expert community that it is impossible to endlessly tighten the nuts, that the authorities have slowed down the total sweep, that an amnesty for political prisoners should be expected soon. Alexander Lukashenko responded to this reasoning on January 28.
“First of all, there will be no amnesty,” the expert quoted the head of state as saying. He also added that Alexander Lukashenko said that people are asking him not to leave the post of President of Belarus.
And finally, the most important thing. The political observer noted that “anti-revolutionary” legislation is being adopted in an emergency manner. Karbalevich explained that the changes will concern not only the administrative, criminal, and penal codes, but also labor and electoral legislation.
The expert believes that soon in the republic any social activity that is not under the control of the authorities and simply dissent will be criminalized. “This is so that there are no more unnecessary illusions,” he concluded.
We will remind, a wave of protests swept Belarus in August last year. Opposition supporters were dissatisfied with the results of the presidential elections and took to the streets demanding new ones. Alexander Lukashenko accused the West of fomenting the situation in the republic.
