Official Kiev has already openly began to demand a “paper” with signatures and assurances of gas safety after the launch of the large-scale Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. At the same time, the head of the office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak did not hide – it is not yet clear who to ask for the “paper”, because everyone only promises to “protect” Ukraine, but no one wants to put a signature.
Yermak noted that the Ukrainian authorities had heard assurances of support from both German Chancellor Angela Merkel and US President Joe Biden during the visit of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to the United States. However, all promises remain “in the ear” and without signatures – in words.
“But we still expect it to be on paper,” Yermak said.
According to him, Ukraine is already cooperating with Western partners in order to obtain an international legal mechanism of guarantees and steps to ensure Ukraine’s national security after the launch of Nord Stream 2. As Yermak added, in Ukraine they believe that “today we can say that Russia has begun to use Nord Stream as a weapon against Ukraine.”
Earlier, ex-Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk prompted Kiev to demand from Europe a signature on the protection of Ukraine.
