The talks between the Russian Federation and the United States regarding nuclear weapons were commented on by Sergey Ermakov, a leading researcher at the RISS.
He stressed that even during the Cold War, Washington and Moscow coordinated issues of strategic stability, MK reports. Now the United States and the Russian Federation continue to engage in dialogue regarding the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons.
“Consultations were going on even before the start of the “military special operation”. When START-3 was extended last time, it was clear that this was the last time, and the world needed a new document. The agreement requires very painstaking, serious work. In the current conditions, given the aggravation of relations between the West and Russia, it will be extremely difficult to achieve what you want, but it is possible,” Yermakov emphasized.
According to him, Moscow and Washington are showing positive dynamics regarding the possibility of developing a dialogue, as they agree that it is necessary to discuss nuclear disarmament.
Yermakov is confident that in the future the countries of the United States and the Russian Federation will be able to resolve all nuclear issues.
