The G20 Extraordinary Summit on Afghanistan has begun its work, it is being held in the format of a videoconference with the participation of representatives of the UN, IMF and the World Bank.
As reported on the Italian government’s Twitter page, the summit will discuss issues of humanitarian assistance to the Afghan population, the fight against terrorism and freedom of movement within Afghanistan.
The event is held at the initiative of the Italian authorities. Russia is represented at the meeting by Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov.
Let us remind you that power in Afghanistan passed into the hands of members of the radical Taliban movement banned in Russia.
In early September, the composition of the country’s interim government was announced under the leadership of Mohammad Hasan Akhund, who has been under UN sanctions for 20 years.
