Elections of the head of state ended in Uzbekistan

In Uzbekistan, voting in the presidential elections has ended, polling stations closed at 20:00 local time, TASS reports.

In total, almost 10 thousand polling stations were organized in the country, and more than 400 polling stations operated abroad. The Central Election Commission has added about 19.9 million people to the electronic voter list. The turnout by 17:30 local time exceeded 70%.

The voting security was ensured by more than 53 thousand law enforcement officers. The elections were attended by 268 observers from 41 states.

The first information on the preliminary results of the CEC will be announced in the morning of October 25. The final results should be announced by October 31.

Earlier on October 24, the presidential elections in Uzbekistan had already been declared valid, since the turnout exceeded the required 33%.

Five candidates are running for the post of head of the country, including the incumbent head of state Shavkat Mirziyoyev. Political analysts consider him the top favorite. To win, a candidate needs to gain more than 50% of the votes.
