Zenit forward Artem Dziuba refused an invitation to the Russian national team for the October 2022 World Cup qualification matches. This was reported by Match TV.
The player noted that he has not yet reached the optimal shape to help the national team 100 percent. He also added that he did not want to go to the most important meetings in order to take someone else’s place.
Dziuba stressed that his decision is not a suspension of a career in the national team, but only concerns the current situation. “I have always dreamed and still dream of playing for my country and I hope to be part of our team more than once and score more than one goal,” the footballer said.
On September 20, Dziuba was included in the expanded composition of the Russian national team for the World Cup qualification matches with Slovakia (October 8) and Slovenia (October 11). The head coach of the team, Valeriy Karpin, explained the presence of a footballer on the list by his progress.
Dziuba was not called up for the September 2022 World Cup qualifiers. In 55 matches for the national team, the forward scored 30 goals and shares with Alexander Kerzhakov the first place in the list of the top scorers of the national team.
