Recently, the BBC has obtained a video in which the 35-year-old daughter of the Emir of Dubai, Mohammed Al Maktoum, Latifa, says that she is being held hostage after attempting to escape in 2018. She also expressed fears for her life. After the unveiling of the video, the royal family of the Arab state made an official statement.

In response to media reports about Princess Latifa, we want to thank those who expressed concern for her well-being, despite the way the situation was covered and certainly did not reflect the real state of affairs. Her family confirms that Her Highness is cared for at home, that her family supports her, and that she is properly cared for by the medical staff. Her condition is getting better and we hope that she will return to public life at the right time,

After Latifa’s video was leaked, the UN Human Rights Agency asked the United Arab Emirates to provide evidence that the princess was still alive. However, the royal family has not provided any video or photographs that could serve as proof that the princess is indeed in good health.

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said he would take up this case. And the head of Human Rights Watch, Kenneth Roth, called the royal family’s statement a “cover” and said that no one would believe him until Latifah had the opportunity to speak for herself.

Latifa’s FreeLatifa campaigners said there have been similar statements from the royal family in the past, but they cannot be trusted. Activists said they fear that Mohammed ibn Rashid Al Maktoum’s daughter may have been tortured and drugged.

It is now imperative that an independent UN group travel to Dubai and be able to visit Latifa immediately. One should insist that she be taken to a safe place in the country of her choice,

Recall that in 2018, Princess Latifa tried to escape from Dubai with the help of her friends to start a new life. She said that she was not allowed to drive a car or even leave Dubai.

However, a few days later, she and her friend Tiina Jauhiyainen were caught on a yacht in the Indian Ocean and sent back. Her father stated that he was acting in the interests of the state and claimed that his daughter was in a safe place and that her family was taking care of her.

Using a phone that was secretly handed over to her, Latifa recorded several videos in the bathroom, as she said it was the only room she could close.

She described in detail how she was seized, euthanized and held alone in a villa with closed windows and doors and without access to medical or legal assistance. Latifa described herself as a hostage and said that she was guarded around the clock by police officers.

I do not know when I will be released and under what conditions. Every day I worry about my safety and my life. I really don’t know if I can survive this situation. Now I’m very tired of everythingShe said.
