Draft law on extrajudicial blocking of extremist websites submitted to the State Duma

The draft law on extrajudicial blocking of extremist websites was submitted to the State Duma, the government did not support the initiative, TASS reports.

The bill empowers law enforcement agencies to block Internet resources based on an expert opinion. According to the authors, it often takes a lot of time from the moment inappropriate content is discovered on the Internet until a court decision is made to restrict access to it.

The Russian government did not support the initiative. The Cabinet of Ministers pointed out the contradiction between the provisions of the draft law and the norms of the law "On operational-search activity"

Earlier it was reported that the Prosecutor General's Office will be able to block websites that justify extremism. The corresponding bill was developed by members of the State Duma commission to investigate the facts of interference of foreign states in the internal affairs of the Russian Federation.

It also became known that the number of extremist crimes in the Russian Federation for the year decreased by 10%.
