The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, said that the desire of Western countries to solve global issues in a narrow circle without the participation of Russia and China is puzzling. Her commentary on the Munich Security Conference is posted on the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
Zakharova recalled that such global topics as climate change and the fight against the pandemic were announced on the agenda of the event, but only the leadership of the US and the EU, as well as the heads of the UN and WHO, were invited to the discussion.
“There was no talk of involving other countries, including Russia and China. On the contrary, they were viewed in the discussion as threats and rivals that need to be fought, ”said the representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
In her opinion, Western countries seek to consider problems in a narrow circle, and then impose convenient solutions on the rest of the international community.
Zakharova stressed that Moscow does not share this approach and calls for broad international cooperation within the framework of the universal democratic institutions of the UN system.
Recall that the Munich Security Conference was held yesterday in an online format. The main topic of the event was the renewal of transatlantic cooperation.
American President Joe Biden, speaking at the conference, said that Russia is trying to weaken NATO and the “European project.”
Meanwhile, the head of France Emmanuel Macron called for dialogue with Russia, but noted that it must be demanding.
