Estonian Foreign Minister Eva-Maria Liimets reported on the details of the conversation between Lukashenka and Merkel. According to her, the Belarusian leader “demanded” from his colleague the recognition of his presidential status and the lifting of all sanctions in exchange for ending the migration crisis.
As the diplomat clarifies, no one intends to fulfill these conditions.
“He wants the sanctions to be lifted, to be recognized as the head of state, so that he can continue (to lead the republic. – Editor’s note),” Liimets said in a statement.
Earlier, Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei and EU diplomat Josep Borrell discussed the refugee situation with the coalition countries. Makei told his colleagues about Minsk’s humanitarian aid to migrants, RT reported.
