Deputy of St. Petersburg Legislative Assembly arrested for bribes worth 16.9 million rubles

The Primorsky District Court of St. Petersburg granted the request of the investigation and detained Roman Koval, a deputy of the city's Legislative Assembly, accused of bribery, until September 30, Interfax reports.

Koval did not admit his guilt. He asked to choose house arrest or any other measure not related to detention.

The investigation, in turn, asked to choose a measure of restraint for him in the form of detention, since Koval, having learned about the detention of his assistant Andrei Grishin in this case, tried to hide with four bags with things and money in the amount of 2,550,000 rubles, 3,000 euros, $ 1,561, bank cards, however, was detained, follows from the message.

Koval and Grishin were detained the day before while receiving part of the illegal remuneration from the businessman. The preventive measure against Grishin has not yet been determined.

A criminal was instituted against Koval under Part 6 of Art. 290 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (taking a bribe on an especially large scale), against Grishin - under Part 4 of Art. 291.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (mediation in bribery on an especially large scale).

According to the investigation, Koval, being a member of the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg, in the period from 2018 to 2020 received a bribe from the entrepreneur personally and through his assistant Andrey Grishin in the form of money and property (car) in the total amount of more than 16.9 million rubles ... Illegal remuneration was due for assistance in the allocation of budgetary funds through the introduction and adoption of amendments to the budget of St. Petersburg to certain state budgetary institutions of the city, with which the commercial organizations represented by the entrepreneur subsequently concluded state contracts. The size of the bribe was 20% of the amount allocated to budgetary institutions.
