Danish Prime Minister Mette Fredriksen suggested starting a new discussion on the Nord Stream 2 project.
She noted that she had always been against the construction of this gas pipeline. In her opinion, Nord Stream 2 will lead to dependence on Russian gas.
“It would be nice if we could start a new discussion on this issue,” the Danish TV and Radio Corporation DR quoted Fredriksen as saying.
Last July, the Danish energy agency issued a permit to build the pipeline.
Let us recall that the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline is supposed to deliver up to 55 billion cubic meters of fuel a year from Russia to Germany through the Baltic Sea. The active opponents of the project are the United States, which is interested in selling liquefied natural gas to European countries, as well as Ukraine and a number of other states. The discussion around Nord Stream 2 escalated against the backdrop of the situation with Navalny.
Meanwhile, the Russian Foreign Ministry believes that what happened to the oppositionist should not affect the construction of the gas pipeline. As the deputy head of the department Alexander Grushko noted, Nord Stream 2 is a commercial project that should remain outside politics. According to him, the launch of this gas pipeline will strengthen the energy security of Europe itself.
