Today, December 28, is the International Day of Cinema. This date is considered to be the birthday of cinema.
On December 28, 1896, the Lumiere brothers presented the world’s first film. It was a 49-second short. The film L’Arrivee d’un train en gare de la Ciotat (“Arrival of the train at La Ciotat station”) was presented at the French establishment “Grand Café” and caused delight and surprise of the audience.
Since then, December 28 has been considered International Film Day.
The first film was shown in Russia on October 15, 1908. It was a painting by Vladimir Romashkov “The Lowest Freeman”. The film was based on the song about Stenka Razin “From the Island to the Rod”.
The best film of all time, according to Kinopoisk, is the 1994 Shawshank Redemption.
