Deadly two-move: the United States will supply Ukraine with MLRS, and Poland will supply missiles

The US authorities are discussing the issue of supplying Ukraine with multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) with a limited range – not capable of striking at the territory of Russia. A senior American official told The Washington Post about this.

“MLRS is under consideration, but nothing is being discussed with long-range strike capabilities,” the official was quoted as saying. The final decision has not yet been made. Possible deliveries of MLRS HIMARS, which are capable of striking at a distance of up to 300 km, were reported by CNN.

Dow Jones claims that, according to the calculations of the Americans, “both systems (GMLRS and HIMARS – author) can give the Ukrainian military greater mobility than the M777 howitzers that the US is still sending to Ukraine.”

The fact that Washington will not send missile systems to Ukraine that allow strikes on Russian territory was announced on May 30 by Joe Biden. Thus, there is now a political ban on dangerous shipments.

“They won’t give (long-range MLRS – ed.) – then we will arrange an exemplary hysteria, ”adviser to the head of the office of the President of Ukraine commented on the decision of the President of the United States Alexey Arestovich. And he put a good face on a bad game: “We are enough for 70 kilometers.”

Deputy Head of the Security Council of Russia Dmitry Medvedev called Biden’s decision “reasonable”. “Otherwise, when attacking our cities, the Russian Armed Forces would have fulfilled their threat and struck at the centers for making these criminal decisions. Some of them are not located in Kyiv at all,” the official explained.

But Ukraine, having received American MLRS with conventional shells, can equip them with long-range ammunition received, for example, from Poland. Warsaw plans to purchase 500 such systems. They, as NATO allies, the US can give “big” missiles.

American MLRS with long-range missiles from Poland in the hands of Kyiv directly threaten Russia, since the distance in a straight line from Kharkov to Belgorod is 70 kilometers, to Kursk – 190 kilometers, to Voronezh – 280 kilometers, to Bryansk – 380 kilometers, and to Tula – 480 kilometers.

Military expert Dmitry Litovkin does not see a big problem in foreign arms supplies, including MLRS.

– The HIMARS missile system can use several types of ammunition. The basic one is an unguided rocket with a range of up to 70 kilometers, or an ATACMS operational-tactical missile with a range of up to 300 kilometers. In fact, this is an analogue of our developments: Tochka-U or Iskander. It was these long-range ammunition that the Americans refused to supply to Kyiv. And nothing prevents them from putting ordinary ammunition.

At the same time, Ukraine has the Smerch MLRS (firing range up to 120 km – ed.), with which they hammer on settlements, and with cluster warheads. But, apparently, our army is knocking out these installations, so Kyiv needed new MLRS.

“SP”: – HIMARS is purchased by Poland. How real, in your opinion, is the danger of supplying Kyiv with long-range operational-tactical missiles to HIMARS from Warsaw?

– We now see how Norway is forced to supply Ukraine with howitzers and ammunition, explaining its actions by dependence on Washington. Poland is the “hyena of Europe”, it can also. In addition, they are now re-equipping their army, switching to American systems. Especially after the visit of the President of Poland to Kyiv Andrzej Duda Poles and Ukrainians merged in a friendly embrace. So everything is possible.

But you need to understand how much ammunition they can transfer to Kyiv. After all, the MLRS themselves are just control machines. For example, the Americans delivered M777 howitzers to Ukraine, but gave little ammunition to them. The Germans wanted to supply Kyiv with an air defense system – ZSU “Gepard”, but abandoned this idea, since they did not find ammunition for them. There is a lot of PR in all these deliveries, but their military expediency is doubtful.

“SP”: – Will Russia be able to destroy missile systems dangerous to us ahead of time? Maybe it’s worth “hitting”, finally, foreign decision-making centers?

– Our Ministry of Defense regularly reports, reports on the identification of deliveries of foreign weapons and destroys them either at storage bases before being sent to the front, or directly at positions. We have enough high-precision missiles to solve the problem of Western lend-lease. As for preventive strikes against foreign targets, let’s not talk about the Third World War using strategic nuclear weapons for now.

On the political reasons why Poland can supply Ukraine with missiles that are deadly for Russia, “SP” told Polonist, Warsaw University graduate Yuri Bondarenko.

– The transfer of long-range missile weapons, which Biden seems to have refused, will naturally be implemented through Poland. I am absolutely sure – do not go to a fortuneteller. Poland may not send troops to Ukraine, but it will certainly do some nasty thing, for example, the supply of missiles.

Numerous warnings, including the last one from Dmitry Medvedev, deputy head of the Security Council of Russia, that strikes will be made on decision-making centers, in no way affect the sanity of our “partners”. Although Vladimir Putin offered them eight years to comply with the Minsk agreements, they did not listen.

As a result, a special operation began. Perhaps we are now one step away from hitting these decision-making centers. At least in Ukraine. And if Polish missiles strike Russian cities, then Medvedev’s words may come true, despite the fact that this is a NATO country. Then blows could be delivered to Warsaw as well.

“SP”: – Although Poland and Ukraine have been “on knives” for almost the entire history …

– Despite the difference in approaches to modern life, Poland and Ukraine are united by one, but fiery passion – Russophobia. It is not just a key moment in the foreign policy of these two countries, it has become their raison d’être. Without understanding this, it is impossible to understand everything else. This is the code, this is the basis of everything.

Even what separates Poles and Ukrainians – and this, above all, the Volhynia massacre – is not able to stop the desire of the current Polish authorities to build a new Commonwealth “from sea to sea” at any cost (there is a film about the Volhynia massacre in Russian, which there are few competitors in terms of emotional impact).

“SP”: – If the new Commonwealth will be built at the expense of the interests of Russia, even on the territory of Ukraine, it is unlikely that the Kremlin will look at it indifferently …

– The Poles sincerely do not believe that they will be hit if they send some of their military contingent to Ukraine. They think that Article 5 of the NATO Charter on the mutual protection of the members of the alliance will protect them. Despite the fact that the Russian authorities have repeatedly said that they will not tolerate anyone in Ukraine.

“SP”: – It turns out that the goal of the second stage of the special operation – the occupation of Odessa and access to Transnistria – is in direct conflict with the concept of Poland “from sea to sea.” Not only Kyiv, but also Warsaw will be cut off from the Black Sea coast…

– Undoubtedly. But the Polish “Wishlist” has nothing to do with Russia. Moreover, the concept of “from sea to sea” has turned from two seas into three seas. Now the Adriatic is also included there. Poland wants to become a distribution hub for American aid throughout Eastern and Central Europe, the first among the Baltic countries, the Visegrad Four countries and the Balkan countries.

Warsaw dreams of being “the first hooligan in the area.” I think Poland is not going to grow Ukrainian lands, the same Galicia. Poland’s plan is more extensive than taking a piece of Ukraine or even the whole of Ukraine. Their plan is to destroy Russia. They are working towards this goal. As well as Ukraine. These countries are situational allies.

“SP”: – Do not choke?

– In case of victory, Poland is counting on at least what the Polish leaders counted on when they negotiated with Hitler about the attack on the USSR. Then the Polish claims to both Ukraine and Belarus shocked even Hitler. Then the Germans realized that it was impossible to negotiate with inadequate people, occupied Poland, and then went to the Soviet Union.

So now. There will be an opportunity, Poland will pinch off part of the territory of Ukraine. But the main target is Russia. It is not hidden, it is proclaimed everywhere. The Polish media are full of articles on this topic. The editorials of semi-official newspapers openly write that Poland does not need either tsarist, or liberal, or communist, or democratic Russia. The main thing is that it does not exist at all.

The Russians find it hard to believe this. They divide everything by ten. But this is actually so – no conspiracy theories. The thirst for historical revenge blinds the eyes of Polish politicians. Revenge for all their defeats since the Middle Ages.
