Deadly dangerous! What complications the coronavirus threatens

Unfortunately, the COVID-19 incidence curve is steadily climbing up. And now it is very important to especially carefully observe all precautions. After all, the coronavirus can cause deadly complications. How does COVID-19 affect the body and what will help protect against the virus?

Our expert - otolaryngologist of the highest category, candidate of medical sciences Vladimir Zaitsev...

Respiratory organs take a hit

Since the virus is transmitted by airborne droplets, the respiratory organs are the first to be hit. As soon as a person inhales the virus, it directly enters the bronchopulmonary system. That is why pneumonia is the most common complication of coronavirus infection, in many cases leading to death.

Also, the nasal mucosa is involved in the inflammatory process, so one of the first and most striking symptoms of COVID-19 is a decrease or complete loss of smell. Sometimes the coronavirus becomes a trigger for the development of sinusitis.

The palatine tonsils are also affected by the virus. Therefore, COVID-19 is often accompanied by tonsillitis and pharyngitis.

Brain threatened

Unfortunately, the destructive effect of coronavirus infection on the body is not limited to the respiratory system. The insidiousness of the virus lies in the fact that it is capable of negatively affecting the work of almost all organs and systems. And where the failure occurs depends on what weak point is in the body.

For example, in people with a predisposition to cardiovascular disease, the coronavirus can lead to heart attack or stroke. Coronavirus infection is especially dangerous for obese people leading a sedentary lifestyle. The fact is that the virus causes inflammation of the walls of blood vessels, leads to thickening of the blood and the formation of blood clots. To pump thick blood, the heart has to work with increased stress, and overweight people are almost always predisposed to hypertension and heart disease.

Also, in the course of recent studies, it turned out that the coronavirus is capable of infecting the central nervous system. Therefore, in people with neurological diseases, COVID-19 can lead to dizziness and other serious conditions, up to the development of Parkinson's disease.

In addition, the lack of oxygen caused by coronavirus pneumonia can trigger cognitive impairment in older adults. Therefore, COVID-19 often gives rise to the development of dementia in older people.

Another formidable complication of coronavirus is renal failure and other problems with the urinary system. After all, the virus is able to penetrate into the kidney tissue, causing inflammation.

In people with diabetes, coronavirus can lead to a worsening of the course of the disease, because the pancreas also suffers from the negative effects of COVID-19. Moreover, there are cases when, after suffering a coronavirus infection, people with a weak pancreas developed type 2 diabetes mellitus.

It is with such a broad effect of the coronavirus on the body that its high mortality is associated. There is only one way to protect yourself from the complications of COVID-19: do not start the disease. And for this you need to listen carefully to your well-being and, at the first symptoms, consult a doctor.

Protect yourself!

Everyone knows about the main methods of preventing coronavirus infection today. This is wearing medical masks and gloves in public places, maintaining social distance, and thorough hand washing. But there are also additional protection measures against the dangerous virus. Among them:

Flu shot. First, the simultaneous flu and coronavirus infection can be fatal. After all, the body will have to work "on two fronts", and this is an increased load on all organs and systems. And secondly, any vaccination stimulates the immune system and allows it to more effectively resist a viral attack.

Proper nutrition. Make sure to have more fresh vegetables and herbs on your table. They contain fiber, which serves as food for beneficial microorganisms in the intestines. And the work of the immune system largely depends on the state of the microflora.

Vitamins. During a pandemic, it is useful to take ascorbic acid, especially in combination with rutin, which strengthens the walls of blood vessels. Also, do not neglect taking multivitamins.

Antiviral sprays and nasal drops, intranasal ointments. These agents prevent the virus from multiplying on the nasal mucosa.

Drinking enough fluids. If the cells in our body are dehydrated, the virus multiplies faster. It is advisable to drink water not in glasses, but in a sip, outside of meals. This is how water is better absorbed by the cells of the body.

Mistakes That Could Cost Life

Many of us make mistakes during a pandemic that can be deadly. Among them:

Self-medicate... COVID-19 is insidious in that its symptoms are similar to those of a common cold. However, if you do not attach importance to poor health and do not consult a doctor, coronavirus infection can lead to irreversible complications and death.

Trying to protect yourself from COVID-19 by stuffing cloves of garlic, chunks of ginger into your nose and instilling caustic juices into your nose... All this irritates the nasal mucosa, leads to its inflammation and a decrease in local immunity. This means that it will be easier for the virus to enter the body.

Rinse the nose with hydrogen peroxide, concentrated saline solutions, soda, laundry soap solutions... All this dries out the mucous membrane and makes it vulnerable to the virus.

Instill various oils in the nose - sea buckthorn, sunflower, etc. There are villi in the nasal cavity that remove mucus and prevent the virus from entering the body. Viscous oils stick together the villi and make them difficult to work with.

There are contraindications. Be sure to consult your doctor
