David Beckham, former Manchester United and England footballer and current owner of the American club Inter Miami, commented on the creation of the Super League, which was announced on the eve of 12 top European clubs.
The founders of the new football tournament, which is due to start in August, are four English clubs, including Manchester United and Arsenal, three Italian, including Juventus and Milan, as well as Spanish Real Madrid, Atletico and Barcelona.
The creation of a separate European tournament was opposed by UEFA, the leadership of the football federations of England, Spain and Italy. The Russian Premier League also did not support the creation of the Super League.
The founding teams of this league will be excluded from the list of participants in national tournaments, world and European championships.
Beckham criticized the creation of the tournament, which included the best European clubs. He wrote on his Instagram page that fans want merit-based competitions. “If we do not protect these values, the game we love will be in danger,” said the former footballer.
