Cyprus and the United States signed a Memorandum of Understanding to continue cooperation in the field of defense, TASS reports.
The corresponding document on Saturday, September 12, at the presidential palace in Nicosia, was signed by the head of the Foreign Ministry of the republic Nikos Christodulidis and US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo.
The signing of the memorandum took place within the framework of bilateral cooperation with the aim of creating a training center in Larnaca, which will be called the Cyprus Center for Land, Maritime and Port Security (CYCLOPS).
It is known that this initiative falls within the scope of the statement of intent, which the governments of Cyprus and the United States signed in 2018.
Earlier it was reported that the United States and the United Arab Emirates entered into an agreement to expand consular privileges and immunities.
