The Danish Energy Agency (DEA) has amended the permit for the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline in Danish territorial waters. Nord Stream 2 AG is now allowed to use not only dynamically positioned vessels, but also anchored vessels.
The DEA explained that the route to be completed passes outside the zone of possible contact with chemical weapons buried at the bottom of the Baltic. The resumption of construction is possible from August 3, when the deadline for appealing the agency's decision expires.
On July 15, the US State Department issued new recommendations under the law on countering Russia through sanctions. The document also included Nord Stream 2. Restrictions apply to those who provide construction and pipe-laying, including financial partners and operators of pipe-laying vessels. As NEWS.ru reported, deputies of the German parliament from the faction "Alternative for Germany" Waldemar Gerdt and Steffen Kotrets criticized Washington's policy regarding the gas pipeline and called on the German authorities to protect Nord Stream 2 for the sake of European economic interests.
