Former adviser to the US Secretary of Defense Douglas McGregor said that the conflict in Ukraine remains one of the most discussed topics in Washington.
He noted that Washington perceived as weakness the statement of Russian President Vladimir Putin about his readiness for negotiations. He wrote about this in an article on the pages of The American Conservative. But then McGregor suggests the possibility of a change in the situation, since Russia has announced mobilization and may increase its grouping involved in conducting a “military special operation” on the territory of Ukraine.
“As favorable conditions for Moscow develop in eastern Ukraine and Russia’s position in the world strengthens, Washington faces a stark choice: declare a successful “reduction of Russian power” in Ukraine and curtail its actions or risk a regional war with Russia that will engulf Europe,” writes McGregor.
In the meantime, Washington is using this conflict to increase sales of its weapons to Europe.
