Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian denied US reports that Russia allegedly requested military assistance from China to conduct a special operation in Ukraine, TASS writes.
The diplomat noted that China’s position on the issue of Ukraine is consistent and clear. China has always played a constructive role in the process of establishing peace and advancing negotiations.
On Sunday, the Financial Times reported that the White House had received information that Russia allegedly requested military assistance from China for a special operation in Ukraine.
Earlier, Washington warned Beijing of the imminent consequences if China tries to help Russia to minimize losses from Western sanctions.
Meanwhile, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang believes that sanctions against Russia will harm the global economy. According to him, the global economy has weakened due to the impact of the pandemic, while sanctions will cause even more damage to the recovery process.
