On October 27, the Parliament of the Republic of Tajikistan decided to build a base in the Wakhan Gorge of the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO). The project, worth about 100 million somoni (620 million rubles – editor’s note), will be controlled by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Tajikistan and the Ministry of Public Security of China.
According to the first deputy head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Tajikistan, Abdurahmon Alamshozoda, the base will be used to accommodate the rapid response group of the Department for Combating Organized Crime of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
“All equipment imported from China will be exempt from taxes and customs duties,” he said.
Recall that the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region borders on Afghanistan, where the Taliban terrorist movement seized power a few months ago* (the organization is banned in the Russian Federation).
What benefit China will receive from the construction of a base in Tajikistan has not yet been specified.
* Terrorist organization whose activities are prohibited on the territory of the Russian Federation
