Chinese President Xi Jinping has signed decrees amending Hong Kong’s electoral system, Xinhua News Agency reported.
Details of the reform have not yet been given, presumably they will be announced later.
The resolution on the development of a bill to reform the electoral system of Hong Kong was approved on March 11 at the annual session of the NPC. The Beijing-initiated reform aims to ensure that Hong Kong is ruled by patriots.
China’s central leadership has previously expressed its intention to maintain a high degree of autonomy for Hong Kong and stressed that Beijing will adhere to the principle of “one country, two systems.”
