The head coach of the Russian football team Stanislav Cherchesov explained the choice of the national team before the European Championship.
Goalkeeper Andrey Lunev was not included in the final application, although, according to Cherchesov, he is an experienced goalkeeper. However, Yuri Dyupin and Anton Shunin, who ended up in the national team, spent the season more evenly, the coach said.
“We are considering Matvey Safonov for the future, he is already settling in and showing the best qualities,” said Cherchesov as the reason for choosing a player.
The defender of Kazan Rubin Ilya Samoshnikov, who was on the preliminary list, did not make it to the final line-up before Euro 2020. On the penultimate workout, he pulled a thigh muscle and lost the ability to play for seven to ten days. Roman Evgeniev worked well, but questions arose with him that need to be resolved, after which he will get into the national team, Cherchesov promised.
“The guys have been warned that they will train with us before the start of the tournament. Life has already taught us – a healthy player falls asleep in the evening, but in the morning he is gone, “- quotes the head coach of the Match TV team.
