The department has already corrected itself, specifying that the issue is still poorly understood. “Sputnik V” forms a very good immune response, but not only to coronavirus, but also to another component of the drug – adenovirus, which is used to deliver the S-protein of the virus into cells, – explains infectious disease doctor, chief physician of the clinic “Leader-Medicine”, Candidate of Medical Sciences Yevgeny Timakov. “Apparently, therefore, there were doubts that revaccination would not be so effective.”
In its turn, Director of the Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology named after Gamalei Alexander Gunzburg stated that immunity to adenoviruses does not affect the development of an immune response when using this vaccine. According to him, revaccination with Sputnik V is not only possible, but may be even more effective than primary vaccination.
“Since COVID-19 will not leave us, we will have to vaccinate about once every 1-3 years,” reminds E. Timakov.
In addition to Sputnik V, we have two more vaccines at our disposal – EpiVacCorona and EpiVac.
