Foreign mercenaries who fought on the side of Ukrainian militants in the Donbass got acquainted with the charges during a court hearing in Donetsk, RIA Novosti reports with reference to a video provided by the DPR Supreme Court.

In the footage, two British citizens and one Moroccan citizen answer in the affirmative when asked if they are aware of the charges. The defendants also stated that they had no claims.

At the end of last week, the DPR Prosecutor General’s Office announced the end of the investigation and the transfer of the criminal case against the British mercenary Aiden Aslin to court. Chairman of the Committee on Criminal and Administrative Legislation of the People’s Council of the DPR Elena Shishkina stated that foreign mercenaries who took part in the hostilities in the Donbass on the side of the Ukrainian troops are not subject to exchange. Earlier, both mercenaries asked the British authorities to facilitate their exchange for a Ukrainian opposition politician. Viktor Medvedchukcaptured by the SBU.

Remember, the British Sean Pinner and Aiden Aslin surrendered at Mariupol in mid-April. The official representative of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation Major General Igor Konashenkov stated that “the mercenaries who arrived in Ukraine are not combatants, the best thing that awaits them is a long term in prison.” He noted that foreign mercenaries do not have the status of combatants under international humanitarian law.

The Prosecutor General’s Office of the DPR previously noted that they could be punished with capital punishment.

The British authorities have already stated that they are ready to take the necessary measures to save their citizens from execution in the DPR.

According to the UK Attorney General Dominika Raabaif the mercenaries were to be convicted, the United Kingdom could appeal against it.

“I don’t know all the details, but of course we expect that the laws that apply during armed conflicts will be respected and we will ensure that we file all complaints,” he said.

London’s claims have already been answered in Moscow. According to the Kremlin spokesman Dmitry PeskovBritish authorities did not turn to Russia with requests for assistance in the exchange of British mercenaries who surrendered in Mariupol

Answering the question of whether the UK’s attempt to appeal the verdict would be regarded as recognition on their part of the sovereignty of the DPR, the legitimacy of its investigation and trial, Peskov said that “this is how the question can be raised.”

I wonder how the British plan to appeal the verdict? And will it have to? Will it come to an estimated execution, or is it just that they stir up interest in the process?

“I think it all depends on the severity of the charges against the mercenaries,” he said. Advisor to the President of the Russian Association for Baltic Studies Vsevolod Shimov.

– If participation in crimes against civilians, murders, violence is proven etc.then the highest measure is quite real. Moreover, I do not exclude the holding of show trials, the result of which will be the highest measure. Inside the DPR, this will be perceived, at least with understanding. However, in relation to ordinary militants, such sentences are, of course, unlikely. In this case, members of the Ukrainian national battalions should be more afraid of such an outcome than foreign mercenaries.

“SP”: – Who should ultimately decide their fate? Moscow or Donetsk with Luhansk?

– I think that the DNR and LNR. It would be fair.

“SP”: – Deputy Prime Minister of Great Britain Dominic Raab said that the government of the country intends to file a protest in connection with the criminal case against its citizens. Where? To the court of the DPR, which they do not recognize, or the ECHR? Will the authorities of the countries from which these people come really do something to get them out?

— Yes, I was also amused by this moment. By itself, a joke about Sportloto or the League of Sexual Reforms suggests itself. The British cannot apply to the DPR and LPR, as they are not recognized. They can make claims against Moscow, but there, again, they will be sent to the DPR and LPR, and the circle will close. With its unwillingness to recognize objective reality, the West is driving itself into a trap, and this incident is a clear confirmation of this.

“SP”: – Those who do not receive a “tower”, maybe they should be forced to work on the restoration of Donbass?

– It is also an option. Involuntarily, an analogy arises with captured Germans who worked on the restoration of destroyed Soviet cities. Why not repeat this experience?

“SP”: – So far we are talking about two Britons and a citizen of Morocco. How many do you think all these people can be in captivity? And how many more will come?

– In principle, there are not very many mercenaries in Ukraine, and they are rarely captured, because one way or another they are military professionals. The bulk of the prisoners are ordinary Ukrainian men who were mobilized, poorly motivated and poorly trained. And as the fighting continues, the number of such a contingent will increase.

“It is difficult to say how many mercenaries and full-time military personnel of NATO countries are fighting on the side of the Ukrainian regime,” he said. Director of the Center for Public and Information Cooperation “Europe” Eduard Popov.

But in any case, it’s thousands of people. I believe that most of them are regular military men, “ihtamnets”. It would be nice if one of them appeared before the cameras and told how the West is fighting in the former Ukraine against Russia and the republics of Donbass.

“SP”: – According to General Konashenkov, the mercenaries who arrived in Ukraine are not combatants, the best that awaits them is a long prison term. Foreign mercenaries do not have the status of combatants under the international humanitarian law. Now everyone says that they are threatened with a “tower”. Bully and raise the stakes or seriously? If they are shot now, for sure no one will surrender in captivity will not want later …

– These are not the words of Konashenkov, but the general principle of international law. I do not agree with you regarding the “tower”. These people came to the former Ukraine to kill Russians. Why should the court of Donbass be so favorable to them in order to rule out the possibility of the death penalty?

However, as the media are now reporting, most likely the British and Moroccan mercenaries will face life imprisonment. It cannot be ruled out that, hypothetically, this lenient sentence can be revised towards tougher. For example, when new evidence of the criminal actions of mercenaries will be revealed.

“SP”: – The British authorities say they will take the necessary measures to save their mercenaries from execution in the DPR. Which?

Johnson and the British authorities actually abandoned their citizens, betrayed them, refusing to discuss the issue of exchanging their mercenaries for Medvedchuk. The current statements are a good mine for a bad game. It is necessary to beat this circumstance as much as possible. Dmitry Peskov said very successfully today: the British appeal to the court to appeal the court verdict is an indirect recognition of the subjectivity of the DPR.

“SP”: – What if yet exchange? It is clear that not on Medvedchuk. If they offer to exchange for our prisoners, will you agree?

– It is impossible to negotiate with the West. Deceived. However, let them offer first. We can wait.

“SP”: – Maybe it makes sense to make them work on the restoration of Mariupol, like the Germans did in their time? Or send to Kolyma? What punishment would be right and practical?

– I think that all Ukrainian prisoners of war and foreign mercenaries, including, should work at least part of the term on the restoration of what they destroyed. Let them feel the hatred of civilians, whose houses they destroyed, whose relatives were killed. And then… There are many directions and places of work where it would be useful to use the labor of foreign mercenaries and Ukrainian Nazis in the interests of society. And, in particular, in the interests of increasing the defense capability of Russia.
