The father of the head of the British Cabinet of Ministers Boris Johnson, Stanley Johnson, told RTL radio station against the background of the completion of the Brexit process that he was in the process of obtaining French citizenship and considered himself a European.
“If I understand correctly, I am French. My mother was born in France, her mother was completely French, and so was her grandfather. So the question for me is to return what I already have. And that makes me very happy, ”said Stanley Johnson.
He added that after Brexit, the British remain Europeans, as Europe is “larger than the common market.”
We add that Stanley Johnson previously worked in the European Commission, and in 1979-1984 he was a member of the European Parliament.
As a reminder, the United Kingdom left the EU on January 31, 2020 after 47 years of membership. The transition period, when all EU regulations and laws were in effect in the UK, will expire on December 31.
Earlier, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that at the moment the country is opening a new page in its history by concluding an agreement on the format of future relations with the European Union.
