The United States will continue to provide defense assistance to Ukraine in the weeks and months ahead. This statement was made by the American Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, RIA Novosti reports.
Blinken also noted that it is difficult for him to imagine the start of operation of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline in the event of an allegedly possible Russian invasion of Ukraine.
As the Secretary of State recalled, no gas is currently supplied through this pipeline.
“And if Russia resumes its aggression against Ukraine, then, of course, it will be difficult to imagine how gas will flow through it in the future,” he stressed.
Earlier, the Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the accusations against the Russian side of aggression are groundless and incorrect in essence. Russia is an absolutely peace-loving country that is interested in good relations with its neighbors.
Meanwhile, US President Joseph Biden, during a telephone conversation with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, promised to introduce unprecedented sanctions against Russia in the event of an escalation on the border with Ukraine. In response, the Russian head of state warned of the risk of a complete rupture in relations between Moscow and Washington.
