US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said that the US written response to Russia on security guarantees in Europe contains Washington’s concerns about Moscow’s actions, it also emphasized that NATO will not compromise the “open door” principle.
According to him, the United States prefers diplomacy and is ready to continue dialogue with the Russian side in areas where cooperation is still possible, RIA Novosti reports.
We are talking, among other things, about cooperation on strike missile systems, transparency of exercises, arms control, the diplomat explained.
He added that the White House does not intend to publish a response to Russia’s security proposals and is counting on similar steps on its part.
US President Joe Biden was personally involved in the preparation of the document, in addition, Washington coordinated with allies and Ukraine, Blinken said.
He also said he plans to speak with Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov in the coming days to discuss the US response on security guarantees once Moscow has seen the document.
