US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said that the recommendation to American citizens to leave Ukraine does not mean that the US administration is confident that an “invasion” of the territory of the republic can be launched, TASS reports.
“This decision was based on only one factor – the safety of our colleagues and their families. And given the ongoing massive build-up of Russian military forces on the borders of Ukraine, which has many signs of preparation for an invasion, these steps were reasonable,” he said.
Blinken added that the further development of events around Ukraine depends on Russia.
Earlier it became known that the North Atlantic Alliance decided to send additional warships and aircraft to the countries of Eastern Europe. So NATO plans to strengthen the defense of the allies against the backdrop of the situation with Ukraine.
Later, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov said that NATO’s statements about the increase in the contingent on the eastern flank increase security tensions.
