The head of the United States Department of State Anthony Blinken, during a meeting with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba, warned Russia against “repeating the mistake of 2014,” RIA Novosti reported.
According to Blinken, in 2014 the Russian side “crossed the border and entered the sovereign Ukrainian territory.”
“At the same time, she falsely stated that she was provoked,” said the head of the American Foreign Ministry and added that “all provocations come only from the Russian Federation.”
According to the Secretary of State, at present the American side is “concerned about information about the unusual military activity of the Russian Federation on the border with Ukraine.”
Blinken noted that Kiev is showing “restraint” and called for a de-escalation of the conflict in Donbass. He stressed that Washington supports the independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
Relations between Russia and Ukraine deteriorated in February 2014. The Ukrainian authorities accused Russia of interfering in the country’s internal affairs. The Russian Federation denies such accusations. Moscow has repeatedly stated that it is not a party to the internal Ukrainian conflict.
Earlier, the head of the DPR Denis Pushilin, commenting on the recent hostilities on the line of contact, expressed the opinion that Ukraine is preparing for a war or a serious provocation in Donbass.
